5 NIGHTS - AUSTRALIAN DEEP SKY PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDED TOUR

Join the  Astro-workshop with exclusive access to one of the darkest and most beautiful skies on the planet at Siding Spring, NSW Australia. Enjoy the Milky Way in full Glory!

Dr. Christian Sasse and iTelescope’s Siding Spring Observatory have produced in a once a lifetime experience allowing you to explore the universe and photograph the Southern Sky with stunning landscapes.

Christian will teach you techniques that will take your stargazing photography to the next level, all provided in a casual manner with a humble sense of humor. You will also learn how to control state-of-the art remote telescopes, how to take stunning images (both LRGB and Narrowband) and how to process them.

He will also teach advanced night photography skills including deep-sky photography, time lapses, star trails and panoramas for beginners to advanced photographers. And then you will learn a new technique he developed – The Cosmic Clock – a Milky Way composite of the whole night. We can provide all equipment. Come, learn and enjoy!

The Southern Sky is fascinating in so many ways. At night as you take images with our equipment or your own camera and  you will hear the large 4m dome roaring deeply all night – whenever the telescope moves from object to object.

Overview

The 5 day / night photography workshop at Siding Spring Observatory requires no knowledge of the night sky for this workshop. This is an experience designed to have you master all aspects of night photography. The emphasis of the Masterclass is on deep-sky photography using Australia’s most powerful state-of-the-art Telescopes, night photography and post-processing.

Home Base: The Masterclass will be held at Siding Spring Observatory where we will meet and engage in our classroom sessions and in-field photography.

Accommodation, transportation and meals are included. You may also rent your own car as alternative (although not required).

Exclusive Accommodation: Facilities not open to the direct public, reside exclusively onsite at Siding Spring Observatory in modern hotel style rooms in either in single or double occupancy.

AVAILABILITY: THIS WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 4 PARTICIPANTS ONLY.

Meals: All meals are included. Please let us know if you have special requirements.

Investment: US$3,995 per participant. A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to reserve a spot, or you may pay in full. The full balance is due 45 days before the Masterclass.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL AND THE ADVENTURE STARTS

Fly yourself to Sydney, Australia and then take a 1 hour direct domestic flight to Dubbo, New South Wales. We recommend you fly Qantas for domestic flights. Our host Dr. Christian Sasse will transport you from Dubbo Airport to your accommodation at Siding Spring approximately a 2.5 hour drive. Alternatively, you may rent a car in Sydney Airport and drive directly to the Siding Spring a 6 hour drive or we can arrange transport for you from major cities within Australia (costs not included).

We will drive to Siding Spring Observatory. We will tour the iTelescope Observatory and discuss our first Masterclass session controlling state-of-the-art Telescopes.

At night you will take control and begin photographing deep-sky objects with such as nebulas, star clusters and galaxies. Your choice is endless! In parallel you will be able to enjoy night photography  embracing the darkest and richest dark skies.

DAY 2

ITELESCOPE INTRO-TUTORIAL AND MILKY WAY PHOTOGRAPHY

On day two, you will tour Siding Spring observatories with a local expert tour guide, meet astronomers and get introduced to large telescopes and state-of-the-art research projects. In the afternoon, we will begin post processing your new photographs of the deep-sky objects in the classroom session to bring your photographs to life.

At night we will learn new settings and techniques to photograph our Milky Way galaxy with landscapes in the classroom. We will practice our new skills infield to capture stunning images in Australia’s darkest skies unaffected by light pollution.

DAY 3

DEEP-SKY PHOTOGRAPHY AND ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

On day three we dive deeper with further exciting tutorials in the classroom to learn multiple image stacking of deep-sky photographs (LRGB) and post-processing to produce pieces of art.

At night we photograph more deep sky objects and explore our vast universe. Each participant will come home with a vast collection of images you photographed yourself.

DAY 4 AND DAY 5

MASTERING THE NIGHT SKY

On day four and five we further refine and master our post-processing techniques for night photography and deep-sky objects. We will dive into narrowband imaging with iTelescope and learn to master image processing with the Hubble palette and how to produce high quality images such as from the ITelescope APOD expert user Josep Drudis.

At night we will learn advanced photographic techniques including panoramas, time lapses, star trails, the cosmic-clock and light painting in the classroom and in-field.

DAY 6

LUNCH AND DEPARTURE

We say our goodbyes, provide transport to Dubbo if needed and leave with a vast amount of new photographs, skills, guides and tutorials.
