The new iTelescope Southern Observatory project is a a high tech structure with room for 14-16 large aperture remote telescopes. We operate in a partnership with the Research School of Astrophysics and Astronomy (RSAA)
The iTelescope Siding Spring Observatory is located within a 'Bortle' light pollution Class 1 zone. Gegenschein is visible. Zodiacal light is bright. Rising Milkyway confuses some into thinking it's dawn. Limiting magnitude 7.6 to 8.0 for people with exceptional vision. the presence of Jupiter or Venus in the sky seems to degrade dark adaptation. Airglow (a very faint, naturally occurring glow most evident within about 15 degrees of the horizon) is readily apparent. Users of large telescopes are very happy. This is an observer's Nirvana!
The iTelescope South facility at Siding Spring Observatory features:
- High speed internet connection
- Automated Roof control
- Online Weather & Sky monitoring Systems
- Over 70% Usable Skies Per Month
- Federally Protected Dark Sky Environment
- Enforced 24hr Site Security
- Excellent Seeing & Moderate Climate (avg 1.5 - 2.5 arc seconds)
- High resolution color SkyCam & Internal Webcam
- On Site Support with local workshop
- Premier Elevation - over 1100m amsl
- Inclusion within a truly professional astronomy community
RSAA Ridge - Siding Springs
Along with an onsite workshop & support the SSO location is the home for T8, T9, T12, T13, T17, T30, T31 and a growing number of iTelescope systems. All connected to our high speed network & avaiable for the world's online astronomy community.
iTelescope is making available its private remote telescope hosting service within this observatory, with staff on site and dedicated support. Your own telescope can image the skies of the southern hemisphere with iTelescope doing all the hard setup work for you.
